THIS is why we fundraise!! THIS is why we travel and seek competition outside of our conference!! EVERY. SINGLE. WRESTLER. that stepped on the mats this weekend at the Homer Spring tournament, regardless of wins, gained strength, knowledge, and power. Great effort by everyone! Results for each event are below:

WOW!!!  Laney had 39 wrestlers attend the JV tournament Friday night! For most of our wrestlers, this was their 1st experience EVER wrestling in a live tournament and what a great job!!

Outstanding effort by ALL our wrestlers this weekend!! 2 pretty grueling days of competition and I hope everyone was able to get some rest!

We had 33 JV athletes compete on Friday at the King of Wake tournament. The # of wrestlers entered in the tournament was so large, they were unable to complete it and unfortunately no individual placers were awarded. But we had a ton of wins, some losses, and ALL came away better wrestlers. Our Laney Wrestlers future is bright!! Congrats to ALL our JV competitors!!! 

Our Women’s and Men’s Varsity teams loaded up at 4:30a Saturday and returned around 2:00a Sunday!!

Men’s Varsity came up a bit short and came in 2nd as a team, but we still had several individual placers, including TWO champions!:

3rd place🥉- Kingston Neal, Sam McQueen, Kaeden Smith, Darrell McIntyre 

Last but not least, Women’s Varsity killed it!!!!  Please join me in congratulating our Lady Bucs as they are the King of Wake team champions with a team score of 176.5!!  CONGRATULATIONS!! 🏆 Top 3 placers, including FIVE champions, are:

DIRTY BIRD INVITATIONAL RESULTS - Men’s Varsity competed in the Dirty Bird Invitational at Swansboro high school last Wednesday and it was a long one!! Please join me in congratulating the individual placers below, including SIX champions!:

Swiss Bear Results - 

Women's team brought home the team title from Swiss Bear this past weekend and are the 2024 team champions! Congratulations as well to the below individual placers:

Varsity Men:

Congratulations also to Kaeden Smith as well as Marquise Kelly! Kaeden is the Swiss Bear individual champion at 190 lbs and Marquise is the Swiss Bear runner up at 175!! Great job by all!

Laney JV wrestlers had 28 athletes compete last night at the Swiss Bear tournament. We had several that placed 3rd or higher including SEVEN (7) champions!!!

Outstanding effort by our Women’s and Men’s Varsity wrestling teams at the Sgt Mark Adams Holiday Classic Tournament in Cary!! 

Women’s Varsity wrestlers came in 2nd as a team (missing 1st by only 1 point!!) and the men came in 3rd!!

What an amazing few days we had at the Carolina Clash!! The team is currently on the way home and should arrive early afternoon.

Our Women's team competed on Saturday in an individual tournament and has once again brought home the team title with a total team score of 195!! WELL DONE LADIES!!! In addition to the team title, we had multiple individual placers including four (4) champions!!

Our Men’s Varsity team competed in a "super dual" in which they wrestled a total of 9 duals over 2 days. The team went 7-2 and came in 6th place out of 20 teams, with both losses coming down to the wire. I've listed the dual team scores below. While not the finish we had hoped for, we had several standout performances that should be noted:

(138) Sam McQueen - 7-1 (4 pins) 30 total team points

(144) Eli Thomas - 8-1 (4 pins) 40 total team points

(175) Marquise Kelly - 8-1 (6 pins) 50 total team points

Wakefield Results - 

Congratulations to both our Men’s and Women’s varsity wrestling teams! BOTH have been crowned the 2025 Wakefield Winter Rumble teams champions!!!! 🏆

First and foremost HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WOMEN'S TEAM!!!  They traveled across the state to compete in the dual team state championship and although they suffered a nail biting loss to the host school, they battled back on day 2 to capture 3rd place!! Such an outstanding performance by all!! We are so proud!
